I remember when Ronnie Haffkine was producing you as "Shadow", and Sissy Spacek as "Rainbo", we all went down to Philadelphia, to debut the Shadow Mann album, and Sissy's single, "John You Went Too Far This Time", a comment on the John and Yoko naked album cover, on the Jerry Blavat T.V. show.
You guys turned a lot of heads that day. You, in your black suede "Shadow" outfit, with a giant red eagle on the back, and Sissy, in her colorful hippie outfit!
In addition to recordng you and Sissy, Ronnie was producing me for Decca, and Shel Silverstein for Roulette, I believe.
We were a small group of people, who had a lot of adventures. I'm glad you're sharing some of our them on Spectropop. A lot of people might find some of them hard to believe, but I can say that I was there and yes, they really happened!!
You are one of the most creative people I know, Artie. You've been a publisher, you write songs, you are an artist in the broadest sense. I love your website and I'm proud to sign your Guest Book.
Thanks for sharing your gifts...I hope you continue to do so.
Love,
Sunny Monday

Dear Artie: For many years you were just a name on many record labels, but one I always associated with music which warmed my heart. Now, though the magic of the internet and the Spectropop group, I'm thrilled to be able to consider you a friend. Your legacy is vast and greatly admirable. You are a delightful man and your contribution to the world of music continues to amaze and inspire. I know that in future I will always "Flashback" to the day the name on the label became a real person so much more vivid than I could have ever imagined. Thank you for being you and for the gift of your music. It will long outlive both of us, I'm sure!
Sincerely,
Anthony Parsons

(Picture of Joe and the immortal LESTER from 1975) HOLEY MOLEY! To hear from "The Arth" after ALL THESE YEARS! Actually Artie I have thought of you often and started to contact you, but, for whatever reason, never hit the "send" button! Seeing your guest book and reading the many entries has brought back so many memories to me as well! Oh, the times we had back in "the day." I am sure most of your other "guests" will agree that the last thirty years have passed so very quickly. I droppped out of "the biz" nearly fifteen years ago and the past decade and a half truly has been quite the journey. Looking back on the last thirty-five years, one can only quote the lyric, "WHAT A LONG STRANGE TRIP IT'S BEEN!" I left L.A. a few years ago and now live happily in the "hassle-free" Mohave Desert. I write this from Southern California, where I have just, once again, enjoyed a wonderful "Christmas In Malibu!" The song lives on and, happily, so do I. Just recently started a new company called THE PODCAST VOICE GUYS which is already doing quite well and am fully enjoying my recent return to the voice-over business! Hope all is well with you and all the others I remember so well who have signed the book! I'd love to hear from any of you! HAPPY 2006 to all!

When Allan Rinde, brought Artie [or Wayne as he told me to call him], to move into a studio apartment, I rented to him in Desert Hot Springs, he looked sad and relieved at the same time. It wasn't until his cats, Whoppy and Streaker, arrived a few days later that his spirits began to pick up!
Over the next few months, he told me that he couldn't afford to live in L.A. any longer and moved to small assisted living facility in the desert, when he discovered that the owner was drugging him, and planned to take over his assets...no one would believe him.
Even though he collected samples of odd smelling food in Baggies...no one would believe him...even though his blood sample revealed large amounts of opiates, and methamphetamine...NO ONE would believe him!!
No one that is, except his old friend and writing partner, Alan O'Day who sent a couple of friends who lived in the area to rescue him!
Wayne once told methat he never used the word friend lightly. When he introduced me to someone the other day as his friend Josie CruZ, nothing could've made me prouder!
Love, Josie

Dear Artie
Many thanks for making your music and your memories available to so many people, including those who devote a considerable portion of each day to reading the Spectropop website in part as a homage to those, such as yourself, who were responsible for creating the stuff we all love so much.

Artie: I've enjoyed your messages on Spectropop, and am glad you are going to spend more time with your songs and songwriting. Since my retirement, I've dabbled in the music business as a hobby, and the 4 CD Morells Anthology ("101 Songs about Cars, Girls, and Food!!!") my tiny Almeron Records label has issued may actually turn a profit! Reading the trials and tribulations of others has given me encouragement to try things I might otherwise have not. I hope we'll both keep "doin' what we're doin'"!

Streaker relaxes on the handmade afgan that the Salvation Army gave Artie on Christmas eve 1995, at the USC Medical center 10 years ago, he had to spend the holidays, awaiting spinal
It's a gesture of kindess that he'll never forget, from the organization who's been helping people in need for over a 100 years.

Artie invited me to write more. He's caught me at a time when I am reflecting on the music biz, what I did in it, and where women stand in the world today.
I visited Spectropop and will visit more. It's fun.I urge others to enjoy the site. When I first met Artie I was soon to move to LA from the UK; I had been running Chrysalis Music Ltd - home to songs by Jethro Tull, Bowie, Frankie Miller, Gen X and other legends. I met him at Midem - then mostly a riotous 5 day party ann an embodiment of the music biz boys club. Anyway, I moved to LA to establish Chrysalis Music Group USA, home to songs by Blondie, Benatar, Carlene Carter and other legends. Artie and Allan Rinde, were my first visitors. In a business that was then (and continues to be)dominated by men (some good - some bad), I always enjoyed Artie's company. While I cannot say he did not flirt with me, or sometimes present outrageous offers, such as accompanying him to lie on a beach in Jamaica to enjoy rum and coconuts and whatever, I never felt that he believed I was anything other than his equal. In other words, I would never accuse Artie of being a chauvinist ir thinking women are less than men. While he did not always agree with my opinion on his songs, it's an honor that he wanted/wants my opinion on what he writes. I don't care which way around m and f is indicated on a form, what is crucial, is that we live in a world still dominated by males, a world still dominated by war. Why can't Oprah run the world?

Fellow Bronxite Artie and I have know each other since the early 70's. He Allan Rinde, Don Williams and I ran together for a long time.. I have many fond memories of those days, besides Artie's famous and often uttered statement, "I think I'm in love" I remember jokingly telling him (the ham he is) that he should call his Almo-Irving Music staff the 'Hitmen' .
Wouldn't you know that Artie went out the very next day dressed in 30's gangster garb and dropped in on everyone he knew to take trade photos as he, the lead 'hitman' delivered song demos to them.
Love you Artie...Keep pitching.
